Highlights of the tour
- Fresh Water Lake
- Middle Ham Falls
- Lunch on tour
The day starts by first visiting the Freshwater lake. The Freshwater Lake is the largest of Dominica’s four lakes. It is located just over 2,500 ft above sea level and is the natural source of the city’s river.
The lake has been dammed to provide water to generate electricity. A hike along the Freshwater Lake Trail provides an opportunity to observe Dominica’s higher forests. The montane forest, which can be recognized by its short, thin trees and open canopy, covers the majority of the area surrounding the lake.
On the way back you may get the opportunity to taste some seasonal fruits. The journey then takes you on a 10 min drive to the starting point of the hike to one of Dominica’s waterfalls (Middleham Falls). The Middleham Falls is a 60 meter (200 feet) high waterfall in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park. It is the highest waterfall on the island and one of the tallest in the Caribbean.
To reach the waterfall, you walk the trail through tropical rainforest, with several intermediate climbs and descents. The total hike takes 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Part of the tour allows you the opportunity to have lunch at a local restaurant. After eating, you get to visit the capital city Roseau and learn of its history.
