Road of Rhum
Highlights of our tour
- Neisson Rum Distillery
- Depaze Rum Distillery
- St James Rum Distillery
There is an old saying “all the roads lead to Rome” but here in Martinique all the roads lead to RHUM. The rum made in Martinique is exceptional and has a very unique taste. Visting the island during the months February to June? During the harvest season visitors at the rum distillery can see how the rum is being made.
Unlike industrial rum, which is made from molasses and water, Martinique Rhum Agricole is made from sugarcane that is filtered, fermented, distilled, and then aged for a minimum of three months and up to three years. The region’s Protected Destination of Origin status, which was granted in 1975, has created strict guidelines for the spirit covering everything from its production region to the specific procedures and sugarcane varieties used to make it. The end result is a “white,” “amber,” or “aged” spirit with an incredibly complex aroma.
You’ll taste some of the best rum in the world from this Caribbean country here, Martinique. The first section of the tour leads you to the north of the island to Neisson, a family owned rum distillery. Then you’ll continue to the Depaze Rhum distillery at the foot of the vocano, Montagne Pélée. You will then head to the east cost of Martinique to eat at the St James Rhum Distillery restaurant. There after, you will get a tour the the rum distillery.
Bus transportation departs with a minimum of 20 persons.
